Sit-In Care Provides Peace of Mind Through Immediate Presence
What Sit-In Care Involves
Sit-in care means a trained carer is present in your parent’s home during agreed hours — often daytime hours or specific periods when your parent is most at risk. The carer is available for assistance with mobility, toileting, or personal care needs, but also provides company, ensures medications are taken, and monitors your parent’s wellbeing. This differs from scheduled care visits where a carer arrives, performs specific tasks, and leaves. With sit-in care, the carer’s primary role is being present and responsive. This is particularly valuable for parents with dementia or confusion who need consistent presence and reassurance, or for parents with significant health risks who need constant monitoring.
Managing Confusion, Anxiety, and Health Monitoring
Sit-in care is ideal for parents who become confused or anxious when alone. Many people with dementia panic when family members leave, even for short periods. Sit-in care prevents this anxiety through consistent, calm presence. The carer can redirect your parent toward activities, provide reassurance, ensure they eat and take medications, and prevent risky behaviours like wandering or cooking unsafely. For parents with significant health conditions, sit-in care means continuous monitoring for changes in breathing, alertness, or comfort. Our carers are trained to recognise early warning signs of health deterioration and alert you or emergency services. Our care coordinator Stef Clark RMN, with 30+ years in care management, sets up sit-in care plans based on your parent’s specific risks, and reviews progress regularly through OpenPass.

Our sit-in carers are selected for their patience, calm presence, and ability to build relationships. They spend extended time with your parent, getting to know their preferences, their interests, and their needs. With a 9.3/10 rating and Good CQC registration, we deliver sit-in care that respects your parent’s autonomy while providing essential support. Our Lowestoft care team brings genuine care and attentiveness to this role, understanding that sometimes presence itself is the most important intervention.
